Starting the New Year off right…. With Kids
2018 - it’s here, it’s arrived. A time to start ‘fresh’ as they say, and begin new goals and promise to become a better person (again).
For many, the new year is a time rich with possibility and hope, the catalyst for new dreams to begin and for us to re-focus our energy on health and happiness. If your teenager is having this urge as well, we thought we’d put together some resolutions to help your kids on the right path. Perhaps they could just focus on one.
1. Find a cause
Teenagers have a rush of energy, so it’s a great idea if we can try to guide this towards something positive. Making the world a better place can be very fulfilling. As seen this year on Home and Away, the teenagers focused their energy towards the environment. Of course this is just one option. Here are some others:- Organise a blood drive
- Empty out closets and donate clothes no longer wanted
- Participate in a fun run that money can be raised towards a charity
2. Reading
Reading at school is compulsory and often seen as a task instead of enjoyment. Challenge your teenager to select three books outside of the school curriculum that they have to read within the year. This may jumpstart a passion for reading they never knew they had.3. An act of kindness everyday
There is a new trend going on, which is to perform an act of kindness every day. This takes commitment. It can be as simple as writing a kind note to someone or giving a stranger a compliment. If this is the chosen goal, then think about all the smiles your teen would make happen.4. Purge some social media
Teenagers these days are the worst when it comes to their phones and computers. The average person these days we have discovered, has five social media accounts. We are certainly learning how to multi-task! This means that our face-to-face communications are getting worse. Try suggesting to your teenager to drop one or two of their accounts. This can help with productivity and help them get outdoors more.5. Be outside more
Outside, in the fresh air, away from the television set, the computer and the games. Most parents would love if their children played more sports, went for a run, a swim and had a healthy lifestyle. This is a great goal and can lead to new hobbies for the whole family.
What will you or your teenager be adding your list? 2018 is a great time to start something new and exciting, be the new you, improve, change, or simply be better at something you already love.
